Project Management

 

With one of the most active and competitive Estimating Departments in the region, Wilkie bids a wide range of complex and challenging projects throughout the Carolinas and the Southeast. Our Estimating Team members use an extensive database of construction cost to create comprehensive estimates that offer design evaluations; value engineering choices; project constructability analysis; and alternative materials and design solutions. With our detail estimating, experience and practices, we can give our clients accurate and prompt information that they will need to make their construction and decision design.

Wilkie Construction will appoint a project estimator, who will review a project with "potential" project manager(s) and field superintendent(s). Each of these selected individuals will be experienced in the relevant aspects of specific construction markets, construction trades, and hold a wealth of experience and knowledge about project construction documents, trade requirements, job restraints, etc.  Our chief estimator will work with the "assigned" project estimator in the bid development phase, which is normally based on the client's RFP and project plans and specifications.

Subcontractors and Vendors: Making the Right Choices. We will contact and solicit bids from only qualified and experienced subcontractors and suppliers. Our selected trade subcontractors and suppliers will have a sound history of construction performance, the ability to provide trade support services and workforce to complete their work on schedule, and to satisfy Wilkie and their clients.

Both our chief and "assigned" project estimator(s) will thoroughly review all plans and specifications; look for Value Engineering cost savings, errors and omissions; search for critical construction issues; and identify potential construction problems associated with this project. Our findings, and when necessary with proposed solutions, will be quickly communicated either to the client or his project architect.

With Wilkie, every section of work is bid competitively in the subcontractor and seller marketplace. The advantage is that we spend time with qualified bidders to ensure their understanding of the design and your expectations. Better bids. No surprises. Ultimate cost control.

Before budgeting or bidding the project (and again after the project is awarded to Wilkie), our executive, project management and estimation Team will review our completed estimate, our "tentative" construction schedule, workforce requirements, subcontractor and suppliers.

Before the project begins construction, the "pre-start-up" construction phase will commence. The construction project estimator along with the selected project manager and Project Superintendent will review project costs and schedule--with executive management. We have more than a dozen field superintendents, who are experienced and "cross trained" in all of our construction markets.

Our estimators, project managers and superintendents are experienced working in this environment and have the capacity to draw on the collective resources of Wilkie in providing this Time vs. Money insight.

In the construction "start-up" processes, we will develop an "original" Primavera-SureTrak CPM project schedule for the project. This CPM schedule will use and develop construction activity logic, labor force and restraints for the project including any needs by the Owner or his Associates. The Owner, the Owner's representative(s), and our Team members who are involved in constructing a project are provided with scheduled updates throughout the term of project. Our construction Team and all "currently working" major subcontractors and suppliers are required to attend our weekly jobsite project meetings.

Utilizing our Construction Management, together with excellent communication, the latest technologies and construction techniques, plus a sound TQM plan, Wilkie works as a Team Partner with our Clients.
